Toranmal Hill Station
Toranmal plateau has elevation of 1,143 meters of above mean sea level. It is the second coolest hill station in the Maharashtra State . Toranmal is the vast green plateau of 15.65 Sq.Km. Toranmal hill station is well known in the North Maharashtra region for its beautyand climate since long. It occupies the highest range of Satpudas qualifying it as hill station. Nestled in the dense lush green forests of Satpudas mountain ranges. It still hasconsiderable salubrious and cool climate during summer season.The population of Toranmal is 3,000 of which 60 % are tribals. There are two well-known stories that explain how Toranmal got its name. One version goes as that, it derived name from frequently occurring plant known by the name 'Torana' 
(Zizyphus rugosa). By another story, the place is named after the goddess called by name "Torana" whose temple is located at the top of the hillock, which is worshipped by the local tribals. 'Mal' is the wordused to hill.
History of Toranmal
Toranmal plateau was once the seat of rulers of Mandu (now in Madhya Pradesh). Local tribals living around the plateau still have high regards for this once a seat of dynastic power and call the plateau by name - 'Gadh'. As a respect for this place, the local tribals used to come every year on Mahashivratri day. British came over here 125 years ago and they constructed Church 100 years back, which is still in existence.

Local Culture 
Toranmal is mix of local tribal and outsiders mainly traders, hoteliers and professionals like tailors, barbers etc. The surrounding hamlets of Toranmal are true showcases of tribals - the Bhils, the Pavaras, the Nhahalas. All of them have their own distinct culture and life styles. Holi is the biggest festival of tribals, which is celebrated on large scale. Mahashivratri is the most revered and largely attended festival of the local tribals. It fallson the 6th day of dark fortnight of Falgun month of Hindu calendar. During the festival, there is a very large fair at Toranmal when the largest gathering of the tribals of all communities and age groups can be seen in their full traditional attire varying colour. Women used to wear their silver ornaments giving 
insights tribal culture.

Hill Stations of Maharashtra
