There is no place like Goa on the 25th of December. The festivities begin with the solemn and grand Midnight Mass. The Basilica of Bom Jesus and Se Cathedral in Old Goa light up in glory, welcoming thousands. The air resonates with the sound of hymns and church bells, creating a spiritual aura that perfectly blends with the cool coastal breeze.
The Festival of Stars
Walking through the villages of Goa during this season is like walking through a gallery of art. Every home hangs a colorful paper lantern (Star) outside. Locals engage in friendly competitions to build the most intricate ‘Cribs’ (Nativity scenes), depicting the birth of Jesus with local Goan touches. It’s a community celebration that welcomes every visitor with open arms.
New Year on the Beach
As the 26th passes, the mood shifts to the New Year. The beaches of Calangute, Baga, and Anjuna transform into open-air parties. With fireworks illuminating the Arabian Sea and seafood shacks serving the best catches, ringing in the New Year in Goa is a bucket-list experience.
