Dapoli is separated from the Sahyadri range by the Khed taluka. Dapoli has a seaboard of 50 km (31 mi) which stretches from Burondi, Kelshi to Dabhol. The coastline differs little in its general characteristics from that of other parts of Konkan. It is densely covered by coconut farms. The principal rivers are Bharja in the north and Vashishthi in the south. A small river called Jog flows through Bandhtivare, Sarang and Tadil into the Arabian sea.
The town is located at an altitude of 800 ft (240 m). It is also called "Mini Mahabaleshwar" because of its cool climate throughout the year. It is 8 km (5.0 mi) from the Arabian Sea and acts as the main town (Taluka headquarters) for several small surrounding villages such as Agarvayangani, kelshi, Anjarle, Mandivali, Sarang, Bandhtivare, Pangari, Dabhil, Sakhaloli, Bhopan, Harnai, Dabhol, Onanavse, Unhavare/farare, Jalgaon, Gavhe, Gimhavane, Asud, Vanand, Kherdi, Karde (beach), Phansu, Pichdoli, Visapur, Onanavase, Murud and Umberghar.
Anjarle is known for the Kadyawarcha Ganpati temple (Marathi: Ganapati on a cliff). This temple was originally constructed using wooden pillars ca. 1150. It was renovated between 1768 and 1780. Until the recent construction of bridge across the Anjarle creek and the building of a road up to the temple, pilgrims had to cross Anjarle creek (Jog River) in a boat, before climbing the hill using steps which pass through Anjarle village.
Just outside the Kelshi village is the lovely Kelshi beach, which stretches for 2.5 kms and the sunsets here are lauded to be spectacular. Apart from the beaches Kelshi is well known as a pilgrim center, thanks to the Mahalaxmi temple and the Yaqub baba dargah. There also is a Siddhivinayak Ganpati temple in the main village street of Kelshi. A number of important festivals is also celebrated every year in Kelshi, in a manner that still preserves the traditions of yore.
